RAREST MODEL CAR KIT EVER! PLEASE NOTE: SMP stopped doing business in 1962 and became AMT, so although the text below says "AMT", this is actually an SMP branded model as you can see from the SMP logo on the 4th photo.

A big Thank You to Dave Darby for pointing out the error! NOT INCLUDED and only for educational purposes! And I quote Tim Boyd from "Collecting Model Car and Truck Kits". Shown here is the instruction sheet and parts for AMT's 1911 Chevrolet kit. Don't feel bad, few have, and even fewer have actually seen one of these kits.

AMT prepared a wall plaque with 1/25 scale replicas of the 1911 and 1962 Chevrolet Impala as a sales incentive for Chevrolet dealers during their Golden Anniversary year of 1962. A spin-off kit of the 1911 Chevrolet got as far as preparation of the assembly instructions and a series of test shots using the dealer promotional tooling.

The kit-engineering department uses these tests to evaluate and fine-tune the kit before releasing it to the public. The original tool for this 1911 Chevrolet kit was reportedly created fro aluminum, a much less expensive process than cutting the tool from steel. In short, AMT could not make a business case out of the kit, so box art was never prepared and the kit was never released to the public. Some have also suggested the kit is really a 1912 Chevrolet (the single 1911 Chevrolet built was a prototype and the car did not enter volume production until 1912), but this does not seem to be a valid reason to have held up volume manufacture of the kit.

At 25 times the cost of a new kit at the time, I decided to pass. The few remaining test shots are almost priceless today. The sample in these photos belonged at the time to Ohio collector and modeler Tom Woodruff. Tim Boyd In my collection for 30+ years and it is with a heavy heart that I finally sell this on to another worthy collector.
